His Excellency Msgr. Giovanni Battista Gandolfo, the new president of the Italian Episcopal Conference's committee for charitable initiatives in favour of the Third World, opened the new office building at the Archbishop's House, Colombo on 03rd September 2012 and also opened the Centre for Higher Education in the Diocese of Chilaw on 04th September 2012.

His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm and His Excellency Msgr. Giovanni Battista Gandolfo laid the foundation stone for the New Hall in the Archbishop's House, Colombo.

The Italian Episcopal Conference's Committee for Charitable Initiatives in Favour of the Third World, had been assisting the Church in Sri Lanka on many projects, very especially in the Rehabilitation programmes for the Tsunami affected families both in North & South.

In 2009, through the intervention of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and in response to the appeal of the Pope Benedict XVI for Sri Lanka, the Italian Bishops' Conference has pledged One Million Euros to Caritas Sri Lanka to attend to the essential needs of the people affected by war.The President of the Italian Bishops' Conference, His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Bangnasco "calls on the ecclesial community to pray for the war victims in Sri Lanka and to support the initiative of solidarity promoted by the Episcopal Conference with the aim of alleviating the suffering of those populations.".
HIGHER EDUCATION CENTRE - IN CHILAW DIOCESE
His Excellency Msgr. Giovanni Battista Gandolfo, the new president of the Italian Episcopal Conference's committee for charitable initiatives in favour of the Third World, opened the new Centre for Higher Education in the Diocese of Chilaw on 04th September 2012.His Lordship Bishop Valence Mendis, Bishop of Chilaw presided at the prayer Service and blessed the New Centre in Chilaw.
