VERY REV. FR. JOE DE MEL
Very Rev. Fr. Joe De Mel, the former Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Colombo, was called to Eternal Rest in the Lord, on 24th March 2014

His mortal remains were kept at SAMATA SARANA Institution, 531, Aluthmawatha Road, Mutuwal, Colombo 15, until Monday 24th March. Thereafter his mortal remains were transferred to the Archbishop's House Chapel, for the funeral service on Monday 24th March 2014.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, together with several other Bishops and Priests from various parts of the country, presided at the Funeral Mass and his mortal remains were buried at the Borella General Cemetery.

While His Grace the Archbishop Emeritus Oswald Gomis presided at the final service at the Chapel, His Grace the Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Marcus Fernando presided at the Service at the cemetery. St. Mary's Church Choir at Bambalapitiya sang at the funeral service as a tribute for his services to Bambalapitiya Parish and St. Joseph's College, Colombo 10 band accompanied his mortal remains to the grave site and band members played the traditional bugle in honour of Fr. Joe De Mel, an old boy of St. Joseph's College.
