192 PERSONS STILL MISSING

The Catholic Bishops' Conference Sri Lanka in a Press Release on the disaster at Koslanda - Miriyabedda area in Haldummulla, says, " We are deeply concerned and shocked to hear the painful news that about 150 persons have gone missing and a large number of houses completely destroyed due to a massive landslide in a vii at Meeriyabeddawatte in the Badulla District yesterday (29lh ) morning. While we extend our deepest sympathies to the family members of the dead and the missing persons and their relatives we also share their grief in this painful moment. In the meanwhile we pray to the God of All Consolation, to comfort them in this hour of sorrow."

" We earnestly request our Catholic Faithful to pray for those who are in grief. We request the Government and the relevant authorities to take all the possible steps to help all those affected people to build up their lives and urge all our people generously contribute to the relief work. We call upon all Catholics too to help the affected community Whatever way possible to restart their lives."
The Disaster Management Center (DMC) confirmed that the number of confirmed deaths due to the landslide stood at ten. More than 150 persons still remained missing, according to the DMC's situation report. A total of 150 houses had been fully damaged due to the landslide. Persons belonging to 57 families who were displaced due to the landslide are currently being housed in two camps,
