Rev. Fr. Saminathan Francis Kirupanathan was called to Eternal Rest

Rev. Fr. Kirupanathan of the Diocese of Jaffna was called to Eternal Rest in the Lord, today in Colombo. Fr. Kirupanathan who was under medical treatment for the tumor in the brain, passed away at the age of 52.
 
Fr. Kirupanathan, born on 14th November 1956, was ordained a Priest of the Jaffna Diocese on 28th July 1983 and immediately after Ordination he went to serve in Mannar, at a time when Mannar was also under the administration of the Jaffna Diocese. After serving in the Parish of Kayts, he was appointed as a Staff Member of the St. Francis Major Seminary, Jaffna and was teaching Philosophy. Thereafter he went to Belgium for further higher studies and on return, he continued to lecture at the Jaffna Major Seminary.
Using his writing skills, he wrote a simple catechism book in Tamil for anyone to find answers to matters of faith.
Fr. Kirupanathan was to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Priestly Ordination on 28th July 2008.
According to the information received through Rev. Fr. Roshan, the Secretary of the Bishop of Jaffna, the mortal remains of Fr. Kirupanathan will be transferred to Jaffna on Tuesday 08th Jan. morning for the funreal Mass and burial on Wednesday, 09th January 2008, in Jaffna.
 
His mortal remains were brought to the Sacred Heart Chapel in the Archbishop's House, Colombo, on Monday 07th Jan. at 10.00a.m. and then Requiem Mass celebrated with the participation of priests from many parts of Sri Lanka. Many priests from Jaffna, Mannar and Colombo and Religious concelebrated at the Requeim Mass. Rev. Fr. Devarajah presided at the Requiem Mass and His Grace the Archbishop Oswald Gomis presided at the Service after the Mass.
