This Peace Ambassadors of Peace- students of Don Bosco in Thailand, arrived in Sri Lanka at the invitation of Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Humer Pinto SDB, the Provincial of the Salesian Fathers ( Don Bosco ) and the Salesian Congregation in the name of peace and performed in Negombo on the International Children’s Day, 01st October 2008 at 4.00 p.m. at Eththukala Don Bosco Institute, amidst a very large gathering of children and people.
The award-winning Sarasit Phithayalai School Marching and Show Band (gold medal winners at the 2006 World Marching Show Band Championships in Korea being one of numerous awards), comprising children from 9 to 18 years of age will perform in Negombo, Nochchiyagama, Balapitiya, Tangalle, and Colombo from October 1st to 13th October 2008.
‘Marching towards peace with children’ as the series of events is titled, is Don Bosco’s way of contributing their mite to the country, in addition to the numerous social work they carry out by providing vocational training for youth of all races and religions across the country.
The children in this band from Ban Pong district who not only pursue their academic studies but also foster their love of music under the wings of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Thailand are all Buddhists, testimony to the non-discriminatory policy of the Salesians not only in that country but all over the world.
Thereafter Band will travel to Anuradhapura district to perform at Nochchiyagama on 05th October at Don Bosco Institute at 4.00 p.m. and then will travel to South to perform at Balapitiya Siddartha Vidyalaya on 08th October at 4.00 p.m., then on 09th October at Tangalle Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium at 4.p.m. and then will come back to Colombo for the final show on 12th October at Dungalpitiya Don Bosco Institute. |
